Science Communication Improvisational Workshop

Join us for an innovative and intensive two-day science communication workshop designed for pathologists and cytotechnologists. Up to 16 attendees will participate in a series of improvisational exercises grounded in communicating science.

Heather Barnes, MA is a Director at the John. G Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, IL where she integrates improvisational strategies in live science programming. Ms. Barnes is a graduate of the Second City program, where she is a faculty member in the Training Center. She has also participated in the Alan Alda Center for the Advancement of Science Communication program. Ms. Barnes led Communications Workshops for and coached ASC Cytology Shark Tank finalists.

Kristen Atkins, MD is an ASC member and a former Chair of the Scientific Program Committee. She is an Associate Professor in the Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology Division with the University of Virginia Health System. Dr. Atkins has utilized improvisational techniques with medical and graduate students, staff, and faculty at her institution.

Target Audience

This Meeting is designed for pathologists, cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, students, and other members of the cytopathology community.

Continuing Medical Education (CME): The American Society of Cytopathology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American Society of Cytopathology designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 12.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
